I grew up in Rockville, Maryland, in a home where communication, creativity, and curiosity shaped everything. My mom was a communications expert, and my dad was a tech guy with a passion for photography—so I was raised to see the world through both logic and art. That blend of perspectives has influenced every path I’ve taken, from art and animation to sales, tourism, and wellness.
Getting here wasn’t exactly a straight path (LGBTQ+ pun intended). I studied advertising art at Montgomery College before earning a bachelor’s in animation from UMBC, but my career took a different turn. I started in retail selling kid toys, tech gadgets, and furniture, then moved into corporate sales in the tourism sector with Marriott, before making an unexpected shift into office supplies—a job I was great at but absolutely hated. Meanwhile, my health was spiraling. At nearly 300 lbs, I felt exhausted and disconnected from myself.
That’s when I joined WW and lost 130 lbs, inspiring me to go back to school to study nutrition. But life had other plans. A back injury and severe anxiety forced me to put my RD dreams on hold-hence my passion for supporting those with neurodiversity and accessibility needs. During my recovery, I immersed myself in holistic wellness, mindset work, and the intersection of Western and alternative medicine. I focused on my passions—photography, art, healthy cooking, and bringing people together—and found new purpose in LGBTQ+ advocacy.
I wrote a book, started meetup groups, and launched the LGBTQ+ Equality Alliance in Chester County. That work led me to Saint Gobain, where I helped roll out a national LGBTQ+ ERG, and later, I helped build an LGBTQ+ digital platform. Eventually, I relocated to Florida, where I founded OutCoast, a nationally recognized LGBTQ+ travel platform.
But as I traveled more, my health suffered again. I saw firsthand how exhausting and unhealthy travel and work conferences can be, and despite everything I had learned, I regained much of the weight I had lost. In 2023, I made a new commitment to myself, focusing on balance over perfection. I believe weight gains aren’t failures—they’re learning curves, and this time, I approached it with a fresh mindset and better tools. A year and a half later, I’m down over 100 lbs again—but more importantly, I’ve redefined what wellness means for me.
Now, I’m finishing what I started. I’m back in school to complete my RD and master’s in nutrition, integrating everything I’ve learned over the years into a new mission—helping frequent travelers, corporate professionals, and event attendees prioritize their well-being without sacrificing adventure, career, or joy.
For years, I thought being a “Jill of all trades” meant I wasn’t successful, but I’ve come to realize that my multifaceted talents and perspectives are exactly what make me thrive. Now, I embrace the fluidity of my skills, my identity, and my ever-evolving path. And I encourage others to do the same—to step outside the box, rewrite the rules, and own every piece of who they are.
This brand—Rachel Covello—is the culmination of everything ME: travel, wellness, inclusion, laughter, and human connection. When I’m not consulting, speaking, or working on wellness initiatives, you’ll find me on stage doing comedy, creating art, spending time with my talented wife and two dogs, and continuing to bring people together to share stories.
If my story resonates with you, let’s connect. Life’s more interesting when we build something meaningful together.”
